Can you help?
Houghton Conquest Care started in 1994 and since then we have answered over 7,000 calls.
The Care Scheme is run by volunteers for the benefit of ALL who reside within the Parish of Houghton Conquest and we urgently need more volunteers.
As a village community with a poor bus service, no doctor or chemist, the Care Scheme is a lifeline for many village residents. Our main request is for transport to and from the local doctors’ and dentists’ surgeries as well as help with getting to and from local hospitals.
Even the offer to drive only once a month would be helpful. Most return journeys will take about an hour of your time and are booked several days ahead so you do not have to stay in waiting for a call. As well as helping less able residents, you meet many interesting people while volunteering.
The Care Group is funded by the small charge made (£4.00 per local trip which is retained by the volunteer to cover petrol costs), by other donations and by funds raised by the Group. For any non-local journeys drivers are reimbursed for their petrol costs (currently 45p per mile).
If you would like more information about becoming a volunteer please contact Sue Derrick (07886 459225) or Kate Smith (01234 740522).
